Gulf Shores Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos

The emerald tide flows gently into the sandy shoreline. The weather is a perfect 78 degrees. Seagulls caw and children laugh as yet another perfect day unfolds in this beach paradise. While some might not associate Alabama with a beach lover’s haven, those who’ve discovered Gulf Shores know better. In fact, considering Gulf Shores is still relatively “under the radar,” most of its visitors find it to be quieter and cheaper than the nearby Florida hotspots. Located on the Gulf Coast in Baldwin County, Gulf Shores is one of only two seaside resorts in the state of Alabama (the other being Orange Beach) and is the perfect vacation location for those looking to do nothing or engage in a whirlwind of exciting activities.

First stop – the beach! Florida Point, Cotton Bayou and Romar Beach all provide uncluttered and un-crowded white sand real estate with warm blue water ideal for an all day swim or for those who just wanna get their feet wet. For those interested in a little more activity, golf is the name of the game! With over 200 holes of world class golf in the region and courses designed by some the biggest names in golf (Arnold Palmer, Bruce Devlin, Earl Stone), golf in Gulf Shores is perfect for those at any skill level. Interested in burning some calories while shopping? Well the Tanger Outlet Center has over 120 stores perfect for the shopaholic in all of us. With an average winter temperature of 65 degrees it’s no wonder tourists in Northern and Midwestern states flock to Gulf Shores during the winter; thus earning the affectionate nickname, snowbirds. And despite the destruction of Hurricane Ivan, a building boom of beautiful beach front property continues to lure people to Gulf Shores from all over the country.
